Education Technology Engineer 

RMC Research seeks a highly motivated, flexible, and energetic education technology specialist to contribute to our growing education technology initiatives.  The Education Technology Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining a wide range of new and existing intellectual property for RMC Research, as well as communicating complicated concepts to a number of different stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge.  The Education Technology Engineer will be expected to have knowledge of the education technology policy realm as well. 

You will work in a small collaborative environment with other team members, developing applications and web properties to enhance student learning while providing a seasoned voice to help advance overall strategy. 

This is an evolving position, and you will be expected to evolve with it, learning new skills as the education technology landscape changes.  While you may not currently have all of the skills listed below, you should be able to develop a working knowledge of them in a short timeframe.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a solid CS background or equivalent experience a plus
  • Must be an effective communicator, able to explain technical concepts to a lay audience in both verbal and written form
  • Fluent in HTML, CSS, PHP, and modern webframeworks such as CodeIgniter
  • Comfortable with both Windows and Mac platforms, with a working knowledge of server functionalities
  • General knowledge of instructional design and User Experience principles is essential
  • Conversant in or willing to learn the Adobe eLearning Suite
  • Able to work within modern Content and Learning Management Systems
  • Knowledgeable of or willing to learn mobile development platforms, using languages like Objective-C and Java
  • Experience with the Pre-K-12 sector strongly desired
  • Graphic design experience a plus
  • Able to provide general technical support as needed

RMC Research has various opportunities available for educational researchers in New York, NY. The available positions fall into four main categories:  Senior Research Associate; Research Associate; Research Assistant; and Research Intern.  

A Senior Research Associate is expected to: design and implement scientific and/or policy research; provide project direction, oversight and management; work on business development & proposal writing; provide professional training and product development; and be available for travel.  

A Research Associate is expected to: coordinate quality assurance; facilitate project teamwork and feedback exchanges; collaborate on troubleshooting complex problems, proposing initiatives and recommending or negotiating solutions; train and provide guidance or administrative direction to junior staff; may lead parts of a project or coordinate sections of larger projects;  and be available for travel.

A Research Assistant is expected to: cordinate administrative and logistical tasks; cotribute tp project teamwork and feedback exchanges; collaborate on troubleshooting complex problems, proposing initiatives and recommending or negotiating solutions; and may travel.

A Research Intern is expected to: coordinate administrative and logistical tasks; participate in project teamwork and feedback exchanges; and assist in troubleshooting problems.

QUALIFICATIONS - Each position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills.  

More specific Requirements include:  

  • Excellent Written and oral communication skills 
  • Solid experience with computer applications, psychometric or statistical measurement techniques, and internet research
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a collaborative team
  • Some prior project leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in research, education, or administrative coordination

Additionally for a Research Intern:

Commitment to an 8-12 week experience 

Additionally for a Research Assistant:

Bachelor's degree in related field  

Additionally for a Research Associate:

3-5 years related field experience in technical assistance, professional development, policy consultation, qualitative/quantitative research, or program evaluation or Master's degree in related field

Additionally for a Senior Research Associate:

Master's degree in a related field with 3-5 years related experience or PhD in related field
