Family Engagement

RMC New York works with schools, community-based organizations, and other service providers to strengthen programs designed to enhance the lives of children, families and communities. RMC New York works to build the capacity of practitioners and families through developing research-based products, professional development workshops and providing technical assistance to schools and community-based organizations. In addition to assisting families, practitioners and communities, RMC New York has extensive expertise in evaluating programs, to improve the quality and reach of community base organization services, especially in the area of family contributions to the educational achievement of children by implementing the parent involvement requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Our staff works with the New York City and New York State Education Departments as well as various districts to:

  • Synthesize parent and family engagement research and identify best  practices that will inform the district and school community. 
  • Conduct focus groups with families and school staff that inform the design of materials that include primary requirements and family/practitioner responsibilities in Title I of the NCLB act.
  • Implement strategies to involve parents as required by Title I and Title III.
         a) District and school plans; 
         b) District and school parent involvement policies; 
         c) School Compacts;
  • Design training curricula that meet the parent involvement  "capacity building" requirements in Title I.
