New York Comprehensive Center (NYCC)

By insisting on high achievement by all students, regardless of geography or life circumstance, the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act has made the need for high quality technical assistance paramount for state education leaders. RMC leads the New York Comprehensive Center, a federally funded regional technical assistance center, in partnership with Education Development Center, Learning Innovations at WestEd, The Education Alliance at Brown University and the United Federation of Teachers Teacher Center.

The Center works with New York state education leaders on initiatives including improving adolescent literacy, supporting comprehensive district and school assessment systems, developing a statewide system of support, engaging institutions of higher education in enhancing teaching quality , eLearning, career and technical education, parent involvement and mathematics, as well as responding to specific requests from the state education department such as the Standards Review Initiative.

In 2008, RMC Research staff, as part of the NYCC Statewide System of Support initiative, collaborated with the EducationCounsel LLC, to assist the New York State Education Department in designing comprehensive recommendation for its system of school and district support and accountability. To accomplish this work, RMC Staff examined existing analyses of New York's system of support and applied an understanding of federal requirements. RMC staff also employed content knowledge ranging from instructional practices, to school improvement, to district capacity building, to best practices in state systems of support nationally.
